BUCA Members

If you would like your society to be added to this list, e-mail Alex Holowczak with the date, time and where you meet, a contact name, phone number and e-mail address, and a link to any website your society may have.

Benefits

Becoming a member costs £10. The benefits are:

Discount Subscription to British Chess Magazine

Member societies should contact admin@buca.org.uk and ask for the promotional code for BUCA, which will give you a 10% discount on the normal price. You will then be able to go to this link, enter the promotional code, and make your purchase(s).

Equipment

If you’re looking to start up a chess society, or looking for equipment for your existing society, BUCA, in partnership with CCF Mindgames can offer the following:

5 sets – one “set” includes a drawstring bag, a set of tournament-standard pieces, and a roll-up board. This will cost £9/set subject to a minimum order of 5 sets.

DGT Easy+ chess clock – a clock that allows users to play competitive games of chess against other people or teams, and have the games graded. The cost for this will be £25 each, or £22.50 each subject to a minimum order of 5 clocks.

Grading

If you wish to have your internal games graded, you can have them graded by BUCA at a cost of 20p per game played (10p per game for rapidplay), which goes directly to the ECF as Game Fee, if the following information is provided: (i) Names of both players (ii) Result of the game (iii) Time control of the game. The results of the game will appear in the next six-monthly grading list. For more about ECF grading, see here.

Note that a “game” consists of two results, and the above Game Fee rates are half the rate you would pay by going directly via the ECF.

Forms

In order to be eligible for this, Universities must have completed and returned the BUCA membership form for that season, and paid the necessary membership fee.

Submit the form or forms to admin@buca.org.uk upon completion.

Note

BUCA reserves to alter the above quoted rates from time-to-time. Notices to that effect will be published at such a time.

Members

The following map shows the location of all the BUCA Members as of the end of the 2010/11 season. Information can be viewed about each society by clicking on each of the pins. Open University is not shown on the map. You will need to zoom in on London and Birmingham, because they have multiple societies within a very short distance. If you cannot see the map, each member’s information is given underneath the map.
